Poorly done unfinished story

The errors in pronouns really just make this bad story worse. It's in third person but at random intervals it changes to first.

The characters themselves are immature teenagers masking as adults. The male is angry for no apparent reason. I looked I didn't find it. The female is a cross between a cheerleader with love self esteem and an irate toddler. Somehow this is supposed to make for either erotica or romance and it misses the mark.

The story itself is half baked, like we readers are just dropped in the middle of the story because the author didn't know how to frame this situation correctly. This is terrible and I'm mad I can't get my time back for reading it.

2 1/2 stars - Story was rushed and too short to develop characters properly

I would have given this 2 1/2 stars but boosted it to a 3 because while I felt it had some merit to it although not fully realized. (some spoilers) The beginning of the story was going along fine. I was getting it. I was into it. Then all of a sudden it felt like the author went on "high speed" , rushing to the finish and I was left behind going "uh ... wait a minute .." While the author attempted to flesh out her characters she didn't give them any chance to grow within the story. The main "Lycan" character, Auden started off as a very arrogant, rather egotistical, quite unlikable guy and then suddenly he changes into a soft, romantic, "I will woo you and win you" guy? What's up with that? And our other main character, Lona, goes from demur, "by the books", "just doing my job" girl to "oh, by the way, I'm a Lycan too and I can beat your butt if I want to"? What?? Add to this we have "mom" who is mentioned several times but not really given much merit and then we have "hey, meet my dad, the Lycan who chose to stay as a wolf all the time but I come to visit now and then". The final "seduction" and giving in to primal desires scene was rushed and did even make me raise one eyebrow in interest or "ahhh". The main story idea (plot) was a good one and could have made for a good story if it had been given time to grow and let more details fill in the gaps. As it stands, it was not that interesting and left me looking for something with more "meat" to it. I think the author should go back and develop the story and characters a bit more. It could be a really good story if given some work.

This book offers comprehensive, yet concise coverage of robotics. It covers analysis of robot kinematics, differential motions, robot dynamics, and trajectory planning. It then proceeds to discuss in detail such important robot subsystems as actuators, sensors, vision systems, and fuzzy logic (at an introductory level). Robotic applications are drawn from a wide variety of fields.

As one of my students once said years ago, "in the life of every product, there comes a time when you have to shoot the designer and go into production." It seems that the same is true for a book. An author of a textbook such as this one may go on forever trying to cover any and every conceivable subject related to the book in order to generate an all-encompassing book that satisfies every teacher and student. But the intention behind writing this book was not that at all. The intention was to write a book that has most subjects that an undergraduate engineering student or a practicing engineer may need to know to be familiar with the subject, to be able to understand robots and robotics, to be able to design a robot, and to be able to integrate a robot in appropriate applications. As such, it covers all necessary fundamentals of robotics, its components and subsystems, and its applications.

This book was originally written for Cal Poly Mechanical Engineering Department's Robotics course. With encouragement from different people, it was somewhat modified to the present form. The book is intended for senior or introductory graduate courses in robotics, as well as for practicing engineers who would like to learn about robotics. Although the book covers a fair amount of mechanics and kinematics, it also covers microprocessor applications, vision systems, sensors, and electric motors. Thus, it can easily be used by mechanical engineers, electronic and electrical engineers, computer engineers, and engineering technologists.

The book comprises nine chapters. Chapter 1 covers introductory subjects that familiarize the reader with the necessary background information that is used in the rest of the book. This includes some historical information, robot components, robot characteristics, robot languages, and robotic applications. Chapter 2 covers the forward and inverse kinematics of robots, including frame representations, transformations, position and orientation analysis, and the Denavit-Hartenberg representation of robot kinematics. Chapter 3 continues with differential motions and velocity analysis of robots and frames. Chapter 4 presents an analysis of robot dynamics and forces. Lagrangian mechanics is used as the primary method of analysis and development for this chapter. Chapter 5 discusses methods of path and trajectory planning, both in joint-space and in Cartesian-space. Chapter 6 covers actuators, including hydraulic devices, electric motors such as DC servomotors and stepper motors, Pneumatic devices, as well as many other novel actuators. It also covers microprocessor control of these actuators. Although this book is not a complete mechatronics book, it does cover a fair amount of mechatronics. Except for the design of a microprocessor, many aspects of mechatronic applications are covered in this chapter. Chapter 7 is a discussion of sensors that are used in robotics and robotic applications. Chapter 8 covers vision systems, including many different techniques for image processing and image analysis. Chapter 9 cover some basic principles of fuzzy logic and its applications in microprocessor control and robotics. This coverage is not intended to be a complete and thorough analysis of fuzzy logic, but instead an introduction to it. It is believed that students and engineers who find it interesting will continue on their own. Appendix A is a quick review of matrix algebra and some other mathematical facts that are needed throughout this book.

Since the book is written for senior-level engineering students or for practicing engineers, the assumption is that the users are familiar with matrix algebra, as well as with basic feedback control theory and analysis. For this reason, except for some basic review, this material is not separately covered in this book. Obviously, to know enough control theory to be proficient in it, one has to have access to a complete controls book, something that is beyond the scope of a robotics book.

Most of the material in this book is generally covered in a four-unit, 10-weeklong course at Cal Poly, with three one-hour lectures and one three-hour lab. However, it is easily possible to cover the entire course in a semester-long course as well. The following breakdown can be used as a model for setting up a course in robotics in a quarter system (in this case, certain subjects must be eliminated or shortened as shown):

• Introductory material and review: 3 lectures
• Kinematics of position: 7 lectures
• Differential motions: 4 lectures
• Robot dynamics and force control: 2 lectures
• Path and trajectory planning: 1 lecture
• Actuators: 3 lectures
• Sensors: 3 lectures
• Vision systems: 4 lectures
• Fuzzy logic: 1 lectures
• Exam and review: 2 lectures

Alternatively, for a 14-week long semester course with three lectures per week, the course may be set up as follows:

• Introductory material and review: 3 lectures
• Kinematics of position: 9 lectures
• Differential motions: 5 lectures
• Robot dynamics and force control: 5 lectures
• Path and trajectory planning: 4 lectures
• Actuators: 4 lectures
• Sensors: 3 lectures
• Vision systems: 5 lectures
• Fuzzy logic: 2 lectures
• Exams and review: 2 lectures

The book also features a design project that starts in Chapter 2 and continues throughout the book. At the end of each chapter, the student is directed to continue with the design project as it relates to the present chapter. Thus, by the end of the book, a complete robot is designed. In addition, a rolling-cylinder robot rover design project is also introduced in Chapter 6 and continues in Chapter 7.

Good and not so good (bad?)

It starts off well. The sections on kinematics and motion are okay, and even the dynamic analysis is not bad, though a bit light for electrical engineers. Then it takes a turn for the worse and gives a generalized picture of sensors and actuators and vision systems, which is okay if it has never been seen before, but for electrical engineers it is not needed. The section on fuzzy logic is interesting but it is dissapointing that there is not a section on real control systems. I hope that fuzzy logic is not a substitute for convention control as this book seems to imply. Paul's book has much more substance dispite its age. Still, for a survey of the topic or for the computer scientist, maybe it is not that bad of a text.

Decent book, better used as Textbook for a basic robotics class.

This is a good "Textbook", I took a robotics class and it served well for that purpose; but as a Stand-alone / Learn-alone book, I do not recommend this book. It is not that intuitive; there are few typos in some problems/examples that probably are corrected in the latest versions, so take care of that if you're planning to learn alone or use it as reference.

It touches many aspects of robotics; it that regard is very complete, but might not be very detailed every concept, not even the key ones; and you better have your linear algebra and overall math skills well polished.

Christmas magic!

Huge fan of the Chronicles of Kerrigan! I couldn't wait for this Novella and I wasn't disappointed! May does a great job introducing us to Rae kerrigan's father as a teenager. Simon Kerrigan.
I always pictured him mean and stuck-up, too smart for everyone else, but was pleasantly surprised. He's a nice kid. Now I want to find out what the heck happened along the way to change his mind-set.
I hope May continues this series with more great books!!

Oh I loved this! Just too short! Way too short! Beth is just so perfect.

I hope Rae one day discovers her parents' full story - well I guess she will since she has her mother back now. Must hear the rest, please release it soon!

Too general for my purposes

The author claims that Aloe Vera is the plant of immortality. There is a long list of all the ailments that Aloe Vera is good for. They include the skin of course but also things like diabetes, arthritis and many more. There really was not a good explanation of why this plant should be considered the plant of immortality.

There is a section on recipes but no actual recipes as to exactly how to use Aloe Vera, just some vague thoughts and ideas.

The book also includes warnings and dangers and how to grow the plant.

While this book is somewhat interesting, I was quite disappointed in the recipe section. Creating a mixture of aloe and oatmeal with some olive oil doesn't really work for me. I don't call that a recipe.

About the Author
Dolly Kyle, childhood friend of Bill Clinton, never expected to be dragged into a national controversy. She knew the truth about the co-presidents Bill and Hillary Clinton; she never changed her story about the affair that made her privy to behind-the-scenes information; and she was not afraid to testify. After graduating from SMU School of Law, Dolly practiced real estate law in Texas, where she was named a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation for outstanding contributions to the administration of justice. That honor was limited to one-third of 1 percent of Texas lawyers. Dolly was the founder and executive director of Lawyers for Affordable Housing that provided pro bono legal services for low-income homeowners and for non-profit housing groups such as Habitat for Humanity. She was also a founding member of the Dallas Affordable Housing Partnership and Dallas City Homes. She is currently turning some of her housing experiences in Dallas into her fourth novel.

I can vouch for the authenticity of "Hillary The Other Woman." I lived in Hot Springs, Arkansas from the year Dolly and I were born--1948--until I moved to North Carolina in 1997. I was closely connected to the Clinton's political history because I was a very active part of the turbulent local elected political system--being a School Board Member, an Alderman, an At-Large City Director, a State Comissioner and a Mayor of Hot Springs from 1979 through 1994.

I thought I knew most everything there was to know about Bill and Hillary Clinton. Well!!! Dolly Kyle really surprised me with the amazing amount of undisclosed information, her vibrant and richly detailed memory, a real "Southern Belle" sass and an iron spine softened with well-bred proper social manners. She has revealed all--supported by her facts and evidence which has withstood the legal system and Congressional inquiry into her relationship with both the Clinton's and numerous other people named, discussed and quoted in her memoir. This is the woman who David Maraniss should have talked with when he was researching his landmark 1995 biography on Bill Clinton--"First in his Class". If he had made contact with her, I believe the tone and texture of his amazing book would have been dramatically different.

Thus, Dolly's engrossing book--her analysis, opinions, commentary and conclusions as a trained lawyer, her life experiences as a brilliant but emotionally damaged woman who is a rape survivor, a loving mother and a clear-eyed citizen with a deep well of conscience-- is an important read and should be thoughtfully considered before casting your vote in November, 2016. Our future depends on it.

Being the same age and from the same area as Bill Clinton, I remember hearing all the rumors, watching the conflicted reactions from the public, listening to the endless promises for a better tomorrow. HILLARY THE OTHER WOMAN is a book about much of America’s soul during our lifetime.
We love the image of the fictional small town, good-ole-boy who understands us, feels our pain and will speak for us. We can admire the stand-by-your-man, strong woman who will fight and defend the family. We want to believe and we forgive because boys will be boys, and we are seduced by promises and requests for forgiveness.
Put preconceived opinions away as you read this Political Memoir. The Clinton world began with Billy and Dolly; Hillary enters and we are invited into the creation of today's political dynasty. Each of the three began with great promise and vast abilities, but each person had many deep flaws that became self-destructive. Time brought some changes to each, but the question facing the reader today is not about the past triangle, it is about our future.
The history of HILLARY THE OTHER WOMAN would not be important except we are now being asked to “just trust me” one more time, to look at the record and believe one more time. It is time we seriously take a look at the record, ask questions and demand why so much of the record has become smoke and “what difference does it make.”
Who is the real Hillary? It’s past time we required an answer and not just a self-serving comment changing the subject.
Who are we in 2016? Are we still the America that looks for promises, hope, a better tomorrow or have we become cynical with a what difference does it make attitude? HILLARY THE OTHER WOMAN is a story about power and money -- how we see that story may define who we are today and what will come tomorrow.
