A Traveler In Time, by August Derleth

August W. Derleth was an amazingly prolific author of genres such as historical fiction, poetry, detective fiction, science fiction, horror, and biography. He may even be better known for having founded a printing house called Arkham Press to make the works of H.P. Lovecraft and other authors of supernatural fiction more easily accessible to readers in the United States, as such stories had previously been published only in England.

"A Traveler in Time" is a very clever little story, featuring newspaperman Tex Harrigan. Derleth writes charming short stories about Harrigan, who maintains a File of Queer People that he tends to reminisce about. He is usually to be found telling the story of one of his stranger interviews to a friend, oftentimes in a bar. In this story, Harrigan tells of the time he interviewed a man who claims to have built a time-traveling machine. The time traveler informs Harrigan that there is to be a war in the not-too-distant future that will destroy New York City, and his method of avoiding this war will be to go back to a time where he will be long dead before here's any chance of the war affecting him. This story is written for the humor, and it is very humorous indeed! It hardly takes a half hour to read and this edition is free, so I say, you should try it!

I feel lucky that some of Derleth's short Harrigan stories are being digitized, but I sure wish that some of his longer, more serious works would be converted. It's so ironic that he founded a printing house and yet he himself is out of print.

It only took me 20 minutes to read it, and it was surely worth it :) It was a tad bit confusing at one point, but at the end I tied it all together, and had a good laugh! Definetly would recommend it.

Issues and this amounts to spoilers. Why take modern alternating current appliances into colonial America, what use would they be? Just one of the details of the story that bothered me. I'll leave it at that.

A Great Beginners Guide

Wow, I wish they had a book like this when I started fish keeping. I think there would be fewer fish in heaven if I had a book this informative. From tank choice to maintenance, the 12 weeks this book covers is jam packed with practical information. This book includes helpful information on plants, filters, fish choice, fish diseases and much more. The step-by-step photos are great and extremely easy to follow. The information is timeless and very well done.

This is a great gift for anyone who has or wants to get a fish tank.

THE best general freshwater aquarium reference I've read.

This is a great and complete reference for the beginning to experienced aquarist. Excellent photos demonstrate what the text explains. The author not only introduces the more difficult technical procedures for keeping an aquarium, but clearly explains how to implement them and the natural processes they affect. I also particularly enjoyed that the author frequently discusses the latest innovations and equipment for the home aquarium. If there was one book for the aquarist that I would recommend, it would be this one.

Great book! Perfect for the beginner.

After a ten year break I decided to get back into aquarium keeping. I knew the basics but I was a little rusty on all the details. This book was a perfect refresher course on all of the intricacies of keeping a tropical aquarium - and I learnt a ton of new stuff too. I am setting up a 10 gallon quarantine tank (in my office) and a 29 gallon display tank (in the living room). I have followed this book page by page and a few weeks later my tanks are ready to accept fish - yes, I'm going shopping this weekend!

The author covers every aspect of setting up a new tank. Filters, lighting, substrate, food, you name it - it's all here. The explanation about the critical subject of water chemistry is the best I've read anywhere. There's also a ton of info about plants if you want to get into that side of things. He then goes on to recommend the most appropriate kinds of fish for each stage in the development of your new aquarium - all great information from someone who clearly knows what he's talking about.

The book itself is full color, with lots of graphs and charts to hold your interest. The photographs are excellent.

So, all in all, a great reference for the beginner. Highly recommended. Glad I bought it.

The perfect fasting diet guide!

If you're struggling to shed off some pounds but hate following diet plans, 'Intermittent Fasting Diet' is the perfect book for you! It's a very simple guide combining diet and fasting to achieve your desirable weight. Not only is the book filled with delicious and healthy recipes, but contains helpful meal plans to incorporate into your lifestyle. I highly recommend this book!

Worth a look if you are looking for a new diet option.

I have been looking for different methods to better control what I eat, and when I saw this title I figured it was worth a look. It is really a simple concept; to eat during a more limited window of time, and to make sure within that time you are eating a well balanced diet. I think I have a tendency to eat less in the morning, eat a big lunch, and then go hours without food until dinner. This doesn't work well as I find myself binge eating horrible food by the time I am home from work because I'm ravenously hungry! I tried to follow the guide, and will admit I had some issues (because I am used to eating at certain times), but it is for me mostly about adjusting my habits, rather than this book doesn't work. I started and did alright the first couple days (aside from being a little hungry toward the end of the day), but then unfortunately was rear ended and kind of fell off the horse. I assure you I will be trying this again though.
As far as the recipes go - there are lots in here. The best thing I have tried is the Maple Flavored sweet potato fries - I never thought about putting maple syrup on them! It really hits the spot. The next thing I plan on trying are the baked potatoes twice. Who doesn't like cream cheese and butter?!? There are quite a few other things that sound really good and I look forward to trying them (zucchini frittata, savory hashbrowns, etc). There are several sample day meal plans. This is helpful if you are clueless on what to eat.

I think it's important when trying "extreme" diets like this to do your homework and not rush right ...

I have been interested in fasting for a long time, and although I have tried it in the past, I never considered it as a diet method. I am currently trying to lose about 20 pounds, and along with a healthier diet and exercise I am seriously considering this diet. This book has a lot of information, including different recipes, and will be something that I will absorb over time before taking the plunge. I think it's important when trying "extreme" diets like this to do your homework and not rush right into it. I am definitely planning on giving it serious consideration in the weeks to come. The recipes alone are worth the extremely tiny price tag of a buck. So, worst case scenario I'll be trying out the recipes. Overall, I recommend this to anyone who is stuck with extra weight that they long to lose or to someone who is simply interested in a "clean" diet and wants to learn more about fasting.

My rating system is as follows:
1 Star: This product isn't only a waste of money, it's also a waste of your time. You would be better off running in the opposite direction than purchasing it.
2 Star: This product is not good by any means, but has a redeeming characteristic. That may mean top notch service, solid build quality, or even that the product is forward-thinking/progressive in concept.
3 Star: This product isn't perfect but is worthy of your time and money if it fits the budget and your expectations are not too high. Often I have purchased 3 star products because either there were no other options or the other options were too expensive.
4 Star: This product is a solid buy. I may not tell everyone I meet about how unbelievable awesome it is, but in my mind it's a great product at a great price.
5 Star: This product is awesome and will not disappoint. I often rave about it to friends and co-workers. Often it's a gamechanger or a major life-enhancer.

    It is absolutely the BEST dehydrator book I have, and I have Mary Bell's, Ball Blue Book, and several others.
    Tammy Gangloff lays out dehydration in SIMPLE steps, LOGICAL sections, Brief yet to the point, with TIPS and insights which only come for experience. I have 3 Excalibur dehydrators and have been dehydrating for over a decade, and found LOTS of USEFUL, Easy to Grab info while dehydrating, and even new wonderful recipes (for example drying cucumbers and making refrigerator pickles, and several Salsa Mix recipes!) I'm ecstatic! Tammy Rocks!

    Most comprehensive and inspiring book on the subject of food dehydration

    A most comprehensive and easy to understand book for dehydrating and reconstituting food at home. The Cookbook is great for anyone starting out on food dehydrating as well as for those who are already working with dehydrating food at home. Those looking to be introduced to food dehydrating should definitely see Tammy's YouTube videos (Dehydrate2Store). These are very informational and give plenty of useful, practical tips. The videos convinced me to buy the book. The only useful thing missing from this wonderful book is a list of resources for tools and equipment.

    However, there is a fairly comprehensive listing of dehydrating equipment and tools on the Dehydrate2Store website and it is advisable to go through these first if one is looking for such resources. It will save a lot of time. Instead of browsing through individual search listings on Amazon, one can short-list the items first and then look at the items on Amazon for reviews, usefulness and reliability.

    I am thrilled with this book! It's simply Outstanding. Everything about it is perfect. Especially the layout, and the amount of information given, about what to do with each item, to make it come out perfect.
    I couldn't believe all the additional information that was in it, and so many new things! Recipe's like none I have ever seen before, that will be a huge hit in my home. You will never need another book about dehydrating, that's for sure.

    About the Author
    R. Reed Hunt received his Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico and taught at Dartmouth College, Furman University, and University of North Carolina at Greensboro, before joining the faculty at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Much of his research has been devoted to characterizing the
    psychological processes that are distinctiveness in memory.
    James B. Worthen received his Ph.D. in experimental psychology with emphases in cognition and social cognition from Texas Tech University in 1995. Dr. Worthen has held positions at Michigan Technological University and the University of Texas at Brownsville. He now teaches and conducts research at
    Southeastern Louisiana University, where he also serves as the Director of the Graduate Program in Psychology.

    As an undergraduate TA, I became familiar with this book when my supervising professor chose it for her undergraduate learning and cognition course. The text presents detailed coverage of the topics in an accessible style. I disagree with the previous reviewer about the value of the discussion of previous experiments. By providing a discussion of selected experiments rather than an exhaustive survey of the empirical literature, the intricacies of problem solving activity in cognitive psychology are highlighted. The text uses a thematic approach throughout, and incorporates real world examples, case studies, and useful examples of experiments on specific topics. I found myself wishing that this text had been used in the cognition course that I had previously taken.
