Instructional Resources
Direct Instruction: A full year of 64 Sentence Lifting lessons, formatted for your SMARTBoard or overhead/LCD projector. These scripted 15-minute lessons provide direct instruction in mechanics, spelling, and grammar skills. Lessons use mentor texts (student and literary examples), simple sentence diagramming, engaging grammar cartoons, sentence combining, error analysis, sentence manipulation, and sentence dictation activities. (Two 15-Minute Sessions, Twice per Week, for 30 Minutes Total Class Time)
Individualized Instruction: 72 remedial grammar and mechanics worksheets, corresponding to each skill tested in the diagnostic assessments. Each worksheet includes definitions, examples, writing hints, and guided practice to help individual students learn the skills they did not master on the diagnostic assessments. Upon completion of each worksheet, students self-correct, take a brief formative assessment, and mini-conference with the teacher. (Two 15-Minute Sessions, Twice per Week, for 30 Minutes Total Class Time)
Here is how teachers describe the Teaching Grammar and Mechanics curriculum:
-Comprehensive: Everything students need to learn about grammar, usage, and mechanics is in this program: the parts of a sentence, the function of these parts (such as the parts of speech), the arrangement of words with the sentence, word choice, grammatical terminology and mechanics: capitalization, punctuation, conventional spelling rules. No other grammar textbook or workbook is needed to teach the L.1, L.2 standards.
-Flexible: Each Sentence Lifting lesson provides both basic and advanced mechanics, spelling, and grammar skills. Teachers choose what to teach to their students, so the curriculum works well for upper elementary, middle, and high school students. Special education students and English-language learners thrive with the individualized worksheets.
-User-friendly: Minimal teacher prep design with simple and clear procedures and instructional activities, suitable for the novice English teacher with little background in grammar as well as for the veteran English teacher. Tips and writing hints for the grammatically-challenged teacher are provided in the scripted lessons, as are all the answers.
-Balanced and research-based: Teaching Grammar and Mechanics is a balanced curriculum; students learn all of the grammar and mechanics skills and rules in the context of authentic writing, not in isolation.
-Effective: Unlike other grammar opener programs, students retain the grammar and mechanics instruction and apply these skills in their own writing.
No other grammar and mechanics curriculum matches the comprehensive resources of Teaching Grammar and Mechanics.

Page 62. Grammar Worksheet #26. Present Perfect Tense Verbs.
Definition. The present perfect verb tense refers to a physical or mental action or a state of being happening or existing before the present."
Hold it right there. If this definition ("before the present") does not fit the PAST tense, please tell me what does. Why go on? You have to start out right to end up right. There's no way to get there from here.
Conclusion: Disregard whatever is written herein about the present perfect.
"Page 64. Grammar Worksheet #28. Past Perfect Tense Verbs.
Definition. The past perfect verb tense refers to a physical or mental action or a state of being that was completed before a specific time in the past. The past perfect is formed with had + the past participle (a verb ending in d, ed, or en for regular verbs).
Example: Cecil and Rae had finished their study by the time that the teacher passed out the test study guide." Wrong. Cecil and Rae FINISHED their study ...
It can be amply and persuasively demonstrated that this definition is incorrect.
Conclusion: Disregard whatever is written herein about the past perfect.
This text has been on the market for TEN years and NO one has commented on the incorrect definitions. Fascinating. Even if you want to argue about the second definition, there is no escape from the first one, which clearly demonstrates that the author was not paying attention and the Grammar Teachers of America are not paying attention. Buyer beware.
